With the money and fame held by many a celebrity, it is not uncommon for the rich and famous of the world to extend their talents into the entrepreneurial world. While some celebs turn to perfumes, fashion lines or make-up brands, many others have used their fortunes to buy vineyards or wineries, to try their hand at making wine. Actors such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, as well as David and Victoria Beckham, all own vineyards solely for personal use, not selling their products. However, there are plenty of famous faces using their name and brand to sell their bottles to wine lovers! Here are some of the best celebrity wines on the market!
Francis Ford Coppola
Coppola has been in the grape business since 1975, now owning a multi-million dollar wine business that can be found in Napa Valley, California. Coppola’s dedication to wine certainly shows, having been awarded “Winery of the Year” at last year’s San Francisco International Wine Competition. With 11 different collections of wine currently created by the winery, Coppola produces a full rainbow of wines. His bottles and blends are consistently ranked highly, with scores stretching into the high 90s, making these wines exceptional value for money, with great tastes!
The American singer, famed for being a member of The Black Eyed Peas, started a winery with her father in 2006 called Ferguson Crest. Named after her hit song, one of her best-selling bottles is called “Fergalicious”. That particular bottle is a blend of 56% Syrah, 25% Merlot, 13% Grenache and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, presenting a hot, sweet and fruity flavour.
Created by her father at the family’s own Ciccone Vineyard in Michigan, Madonna is the namesake of the brand, which puts out five wine types; Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. Awarded an average of 83 points by Wine Enthusiast, making it decent enough to try, if you can spare the $30 a bottle price!
The Twin Peaks star started winemaking as a hobby but it has steadily grown into a business, now owning a winery called Pursued by Bear, in his home state of Washington. The first bottle produced by Pursued by Bear was a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, although the business has quickly expanded and diversified, with the aptly named Blushing Bear (a rosé) joining the collection in 2015, with the Baby Bear Syrah being produced in 2008!
As a lover of wine, Barrymore partnered with Carmel Road Winery in California to make her own Pinot Grigio. With a lemony taste, the wine is very light, made from Monterey grapes, and perhaps best suited to the more casual wine fan. Establishing her name in the wine industry though, Drew Barrymore has subsequently released a Pinot Noir and Rose of Pinot Noir.
While technically not his own wine brand, Jay Z famously bought up the Armand de Brignac brand in 2014, known for their Ace of Spades Champagne. As well as its famous owner, the brand is also known for having some of the biggest bottles in the business, with the 30-litre ‘Midas’ (40 bottles worth), 15-litre Nebuchadnezzars and the 6-litre Methuselahs. The drinks themselves get high scores all around from critics, and Jay Z himself is certainly a fan, racking up a $100,000 bill of the stuff – although we guess that is technically him paying himself!
